Therapy FAQs

  • The reason you come to therapy is up to you - I provide a safe space for you to reflect, heal, rage, and reclaim. Project LETS, an important grassroots peer support program puts it best in their Mental Health 101 article here.

  • Therapy should not be an echo chamber and a diagnosis should not be the answer to all questions. There are many things therapy is not, especially those listed in this questionnaire: “Is There Something Wrong or Questionable In Your Treatment?”

You are the expert in your experience. I love this article written by a therapist, “You’re Probably Smarter Than Your Therapist: How to Get What You Came For Anyways.” Therapy should be give and take, relational, and worth your time. See also: “50 Signs of Good Therapy.”

  • I am currently only seeing clients online in California.

Fun fact about me is that I am currently living in Atlanta, GA! But please do not worry about calculating time differences, I love working on Pacific Coast Time and will always reference it when scheduling.

  • Yes! If you are interested in working with me, please reach out using the contact form, emailing me directly at callistacoxtherapy@gmail.com, or booking a free 15 minute consultation.

  • If you decide to book a free 15 minute consultation with me, please indicate whether you prefer a phone call, video meeting, or email correspondence. This is a chance to go over what brings you to therapy and get a feel for how we might work together. I can also offer my insight on alternatives to my services so that you are connected to resources no matter what you decide to do.

I know it can be nerve-wracking to meet someone new so here is our agenda so that you can feel prepared and supported:

    1. Tell me about what you are looking for in therapy? (for example: Process trauma, Relationship Growth, Decision Making, Navigating Chronic Stress, Identify my values, Manage a Condition, Gender Affirming Care)

    2. Tell me about your experience in therapy? (for example: New to therapy, Peer Support Groups, Short term therapy only, Experience with Long term therapy, Referred from IOP/PHP)

    3. I will review how I work (my approach to therapy, how we might work together)

    4. I will ask if you have any questions for me. (For example, you might ask about my training, my supervisor's training, my lived experience, my political or religious beliefs and how this impacts our work together, my approach to suicidality and self harm, my experience in working with people who are (insert identities) or have (insert mental health conditions), and any other question that is important for you to ask in your search for a therapist!)

    5. We will confirm the fee and frequency of sessions. I will go over my policies and explain what would happen next if you decide to work with me.

    6. We will both share availability but I will not require you to schedule a session.

    7. Fit check: does it seem like we are a good fit? Do you want to take a few days to process? If you'd like to book a session we will do that and schedule it during this call.

Looking forward to meeting you & being a part of your search for a therapist!

Relationship sessions (2-5 people): $195 for 50 minute session, $275 for 90 minute session

  • I have reduced rates based on need and availability. Here is a tool we can use when reducing a fee based on need.

  • I currently do not work with insurance as I am an out-of-network provider. I may be able to help you prepare a super-bill to submit to your insurance.

  • Individual therapy & Group therapy: one time a week

Relationship therapy: between 2-4 times a month

  • Because my work is rooted in Disability Justice principles, I provide accommodations in my policies regarding cancellations. When we first work together we will develop an agreement based on your lived experience of making it to past sessions, doctor’s appointments, and missed appointment histories. Illness, financial stress, conflicting appointments, crises, and forgetfulness are all completely valid reasons for needing to miss an appointment. After accounting for your experience, we will decide on a policy that works for us and I will continue to check in with you to see if we need to revise it.

For example: I may work with a client who has a dynamic disability and needs to cancel within an hour of our scheduled session. As we agreed, our policy is that this client and I will reschedule for another appointment within 7 days and they will not be charged a cancellation fee.
